Even though many families take great joy in providing care to their loved ones so that they can remain at home, the physical, emotional and financial consequences for the family caregiver can be overwhelming without some support, such as respite.

Respite provides the much needed temporary break from the often exhausting challenges faced by the family caregiver. Respite programs provide for a planned short-term and time-limited admission which provides a break for families and other unpaid caregivers to support and maintain the primary care giving relationship. Respite can also provide a positive experience for the person receiving care.

The rate for a respite stay is set at the lowest monthly residential rate so that you are able to maintain your primary residence during the admission. To learn more about how to access respite care, please contact your Home Health and Community Care Office.

If you or your family believes you will experience serious financial hardship by paying this rate, you may apply through your Home Health and Community Care Office for a temporary reduction.
