Walking Program

Taking Steps to Fitness, Indoor Walking Program. Classes are every Monday and Thursday (excluding statutory holidays) starting at 1:15 to 2:15 pm at Shuswap Lake Estates Community Centre led by Joyce Slone, a certified Fitness Instructor and she is very passionate about the program.

  • Indoor Walking has developed into a program with many participants using Walking Poles. Walking with Poles is SO
  • beneficial for any age group.
  • Certified Instructors start the program with:
  • Participants using poles for the first time, fitting, adjusting and technique training for different pole tips
  • Proper warm up by doing dynamic movement exercises
  • Walking for 30 minutes (chairs set up if you need to rest) teaching postural awareness, safety passing thru
  • rooms with poles….
  • Balance/agility exercises…
  • Resistance training using weighted sandbags 1-2 lb. OR body weight using bender balls, seated, or standing
  • Circuit training…stations setup
  • Stretching/Flexibility to lengthen muscles….
